Celtic friends turn enemies as Airdrie star looks to get one over Hoops pal in Queen's Park tussle

Kerr McInroy knows his weekend opponent very well - but he hopes he's on the right side of the result when he meets Celtic teammate Luca Connell in a match between Airdrie and Queen's Park.

The midfielder is on loan at the Diamonds from Celtic until January and faces Connell this weekend, who is also away from Parkhead to gain senior experience in League One.

It's a crucial game for Airdrie, who sit fourth in the third tier, the final promotion play-off spot. Queen's are in third and on the same 26 points-mark as Ian Murray's side.

McInroy has known of fellow midfielder Connell since his 2019 move to Parkhead from Bolton, but senior opportunities have been few and far between for both Celtic youngsters since.

The Airdrie star reckons the game will be an interesting one because of the unique midfield dynamic.

He said: "I know Luca really well. Luca's a good pal of mine and it will be interesting to go and play against him.

"So I'm looking forward to that. Luca's a really good player and got the move couple of years ago now. Perhaps it hasn't worked out as well as he would have wanted.

"But he's out playing games at Queen's Park and I'm sure he's happy with that. I'm sure he'll be looking forward to the weekend."

Airdrie have lost to promotion rivals Cove Rangers and Montrose - where McInroy scored from a corner during the 2-1 defeat - in recent weeks but still sit five points off League One's summit.

McInroy is aware of how tight the league is and insists just one win can take you soaring up the table.

He added: "It's a really tight league and that is shown by there only being a few points between the top four teams.

"Every game means something and every week you can jump from fourth to nearer the top, and vice-versa. You can jump and down the table before you know it.

"It's a very tight league. There's not a lot between the teams."
