Celtic Foundation donates £30,000 to new schools project as Peter Lawwell pledges 'real support' to families

The Celtic Foundation will donate £30,000 as part of a new schools project.

The Parkhead club have so far raised over £450,000 as part of their "Football for Good" fund aimed at helping communities through the coronavirus pandemic.

Around 1,600 pupils and their families will benefit from the latest scheme, which will provide "family cooking packs and activity boxes".

A total of 12 schools and nurseries will benefit from the endeavour as its launch was fronted by midfielder Callum McGregor on Monday.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell believes the project will deliver vital support to those most in need.

He said: “While we continue to work through the current crisis and hopefully see some better times ahead, we are aware that so many families continue to suffer real difficulty and hardship. This project, working together with local schools and nurseries will deliver real support to those in need.

"We have now committed £450,000 across a range of projects within the Football for Good initiative and I would like to thank everyone at our Foundation who continue, in such difficult times, to make such a positive difference in our local communities.”

Celtic Foundation chief executive Tony Hamilton insists the organisation will continue to offer assistance to those worst affected by the crisis.

He added: “This project will be hugely important in providing some much needed assistance to people who are very deserving of our support. So many people continue to feel the negative effects of this crisis.

"It’s important we keep focused on our communities through this enormously challenging time for families and this continues to be our focus.”
