Celtic fire sale prediction as pundit insists Odsonne Edouard must go after £6million half year loss

Pundit Alan Rough reckons Celtic will be working quickly to sell their top talent to recoup financial losses during the pandemic.

The startling impact of the Covid crisis on the Premiership champions was revealed today as with no fans allowed in the stadium revenues have crashed by 23.7 per cent, dropping from £53.3m to £40.7m.

Former Hoops' keeper Rough pointed to the lack of a significant run in Europe as another reason behind the blow to the club's finances.

However, he reckons that a host of players will be sold on this summer with talisman Odsonne Edouard topping the list.

He told the PLZ Football Show: “It’s European football. It brings the money in and it’s been bringing money into Celtic for a long, long time now.

“That’s why it’s so important to Rangers to get into this European environment. They can see the money that is out there and that is where they want to be.

“Covid has hit everybody to different levels and the big boys will be getting hurt with some of the wages the players are on, but it will just be scaled down the way.

“Every club will have to sit down at the end of the season and readdress the budget.

“If you are hemorrhaging just now then when it comes to next year you are going to have to adjust your budget.

“It remains to be seen how certain clubs do it. Obviously Celtic are very good at selling people on and they have been very, very good at it throughout the years.

“With Edouard, that will be a lot of money coming into the club and there are lots of other players who will be going as well.

“They will be looking to recoup as much as they can with certain players.”
