Celtic fire back at West Brom over Oliver Burke treatment and blast Baggies chief for 'ridiculous' comments

Celtic have blasted back at West Brom for their savage attack on Neil Lennon over his treatment of Oliver Burke .

The Hoops have accused the Baggies of "ridiculous and completely inaccurate" comments which, they say, brings into question the professionalism of both the Parkhead boss and the club.

West Brom insisted the Scotland forward will never go anywhere near Celtic again while Lennon is boss.

Burke was on loan at Parkhead last season from January till May. Brendan Rodgers clinched the deal in January before leaving for Leicester a month later to be replaced by Lennon.

And West Brom technical director Luke Dowling revealed they were furious at Lennon ’s treatment of the player after Brendan Rodgers left as manager.

He said: "Once Brendan left to go to Leicester the treatment he got from the manager that’s in place now is something we don’t expect for one of our players."

But Celtic hit back strongly on Tuesday.

A statement from Parkhead said: "These comments, which question the professionalism of both Neil and Celtic Football Club, are ridiculous and completely inaccurate.

"West Brom have made no contact whatsoever with either Neil or the club in relation to Oliver.

"As with every player who comes to Celtic, Oliver received the very best of treatment and every support and opportunity. We wish Oliver the very best for the future."
