Celtic Filip Benkovic transfer miss as Leicester City defender 'closes in' on Belgian switch

Celtic are set to miss out on Filip Benkovic as the Leicester City defender closes in on a move to OH Leuven, according to a report.

The Parkhead side were in talks to sign the former Hoops centre-half after Brendan Rodgers opened the door for a potential return in January.

But it seems Neil Lennon's side have been unable to agree a deal for Benkovic as the Daily Mail claims he is on the verge of signing with the Belgian side.

OH Leuven are Leicester's sister club and Benkovic is set to follow former Rangers man Andy King who sealed a switch there earlier this week.

Celtic were keen to bring the Croat back for a second spell after his impressive time at the club in the 2018/19 season.

John Kennedy confirmed he was one of many targets as the Hoops look for a centre-back in the window following the injury to Christopher Jullien.

He said: "Filip is one who we are very well aware of and have spoken about. We know what he is capable of, and he's a guy who has been here and knows what it's about.

"So he is certainly on a shortlist of options to strengthen the centre-back position."
