Celtic fans will love this Emilio Izaguirre transfer gesture that shows he still holds club close to his heart

Emilio Izaguirre is encouraging players in his native Honduras to join Celtic - but claims Scotland's red tape rules them out of any potential switch.

The left-back enjoyed two spells at Parkhead before departing for boyhood club Motagua last summer.

Izaguirre remains a fan favourite after his eight years in Glasgow, especially his successful first stint with the Hoops.

And the Honduran clearly holds his time with Celtic in high regard.

Izaguirre reveals he endorses a move to the Premiership champions when speaking to his compatriots, but claims there's a specific criteria to meet for Honduran players to make the move to Scotland.

He told Diez: “Sure, (I recommend Celtic) to many.

“The problem is that in Scotland they only sign players who meet certain requirements.

“One of them is that the players have to have played several matches with the national team and that those national teams need to be in the top 50 rankings.

“If they’re from nations below the top 50, they don’t sign them.”
