Celtic fans warned by Police Scotland over further Neil Lennon protests at Parkhead

Police Scotland have warned Celtic fans not to protest at Parkhead ahead of Sunday's match with St Johnstone.

The Hoops face the in-form Perth side amid a terrible slide that has seen them collect just two wins in 11 games.

Influential fan group the Green Brigade displayed a critical banner featuring Neil Lennon, Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond at the ground on Friday.

It comes after fans congregated to demonstrate outside the stadium following the Betfred Cup defeat to Ross County last Sunday, showing disregard for the level four lockdown in place in central Glasgow as well as social distancing measures to contain Covid.

Three police officers sustained injuries during troubling scenes and the force are keen to avoid another flashpoint, urging fans to find a digital alternative to make their voices heard.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland said: “We are aware of a proposed demonstration outside Celtic Park on Sunday and would urge people to find alternative ways to protest, such as online, to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“The Scottish Government regulations are quite clear that these types of protest are prohibited in areas under level four restrictions.

“Our response will be measured and appropriate but we will use enforcement where required.”

The club have erected a barrier around the ground perimeter as they prepare for all eventualities.
