Celtic fans unveil lazy Rangers insult and Christophe Berra tears it up on the wing

The end of the transfer window can be awfully repetitive. You know the drill by now: Jim White’s yellow tie, Celtic fans unhappy, a striker completing a loan deal only for a fan of the club he’s leaving to post about his supposed sexual inadequacy on Twitter. So predictable.

Having already charmed the Hibs support by sealing a loan move to Rangers, Florian Kamberi further endeared himself to them by revealing that “Ever since I came to Scotland it has been a dream for me to move to Rangers”. As far as ill-advised comments made upon signing for Rangers in the January transfer window by players who technically belong to another Scottish Premiership side, it’s up there with Jordan Jones tweeting “WATP” when he had four months remaining of his Kilmarnock contract.

One Hibs fan took stock of the situation and tweeted: “Kamberi can get so far to f***, can’t believe he said that in his statement ruined my night the f***ing snake, I don’t even care he’s away I’m just annoyed he said he always wanted to play for Rangers, absolute snake just f***ing sell him right f***in now and don’t look back”. Others were less polite.

Speaking of impolite, Celtic fans took the unusual step on Sunday of insulting Rangers. At the Hamilton Sainsbury’s Car Park Arena, they unveiled a banner reading “RANGERS = CORONAVIRUS”. It was a day on which Celtic were willing to give youngsters their opportunity, with 20-year-old Stephen Welsh making his debut on the pitch and a 7-year-old designing their banner off it.

Seriously, ‘RANGERS = CORONAVIRUS’? You know it’s bad when even Celtic fans are slagging off an anti-Rangers banner, as many were on Twitter. In terms of effort, it’s barely one step above ‘RANGERS = SMELLY’.

If you’re going to draw a comparison between your rivals and a topical public health emergency, at least show your working. A more appropriate banner would have read ‘RANGERS APPEARED TO POSE A THREAT AND BRIEFLY GOT A FEW FOLK WORRIED, BUT ULTIMATELY WON’T HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT IN SCOTLAND THIS YEAR. ALL OF WHICH LEADS US TO FEEL CONFIDENT IN SUGGESTING THAT RANGERS = CORONAVIRUS’. Do better.

One man who does not need to do better is Hearts strike Uche Ikpeazu. As the Daniel Stendel revolution continues apace, players are keen to prove their worth to the new manager. For most, the focus will be on demonstrating their adaptability to his high-press attacking football.

Uche Ikpeazu is not most players. Whatever is happening in this video, it needs to happen more.

Ikpeazu’s former team-mate Christophe Berra made his Dundee debut on Saturday, with the tricky winger helping his side to a 1-1 draw with Morton at Cappielow.

I know he was a centre-back at Hearts, but I’m assuming he’s a tricky winger now as he was wearing the number seven shirt. The number seven on a central defender’s back seems about as likely as a striker wearing the number one, a keeper wearing the number nine or James Tavernier lifting the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership trophy.
