Celtic fans unfurl touching Stevie Chalmers tribute banner at Pittodrie

Celtic and Aberdeen fans joined forces in paying tribute to two giants of Scottish football ahead of this afternoon's potential title clincher for the Hoops at Pittodrie.

A minute's applause was held for Billy McNeill and Stevie Chalmers ahead of kick off while Celtic fans unfurled a banner paying tribute to Chalmers, the scorer of "the greatest goal in our history".

McNeill - who captained Celtic to the European Cup in 1967 as well as their 9 in a row run - also managed both sides after retiring from playing.

The funeral of the Hoops' greatest ever captain was held on Friday, 11 days after he lost his battle with dementia.

Sadly Celtic lost another Lisbon Lion just six days after McNeill as Chalmers, who scored the winning goal against Inter Milan in the '67 final, also lost his fight with the disease.

The banner in the away end read: "The greatest goal in our history. RIP Stevie. He won the big cup."

Flags were flying at half mast at Pittodrie ahead of kick off as Celtic look for the point that will clinch 8 in a row.

Meanwhile it has been confirmed Chalmers' funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 8.

It will begin with a funeral mass at St Mary's Church in Carlton, Glasgow at 11.30am.

The cortege will then pass Celtic Park giving Hoops fans the chance to say farewell to the Lisbon legend.

There will then be a private family cremation.
