Celtic fans to star in documentary as Al Jazeera highlight movement that is 'more than just a football club'

Celtic fans are the subject of a new documentary to be broadcast on Al Jazeera highlighting the 'movement' represented by fans.

Interviewees include John Fallon, the '12th man' of the Lisbon Lions, as well as celebrity fan and Albanian president Ilir Meta.

The film will follow the Green Brigade and other supporter groups as it details the history, activism and passion of the Celtic fans.

There will also be a political tint to the Al Jazeera film, with the frequent displays of solidarity with Palestine at Parkhead highlighted.

Filming took place in Belfast, as well as at before the Europa League triumph over Lazio in 2019.

Filmmaker Jamie Doran explained: "Before making this film, I had been unaware that it was illegal for decades to fly the Irish tricolor in the North.

"To assert that part of their identity, nationalists had to travel to Glasgow, to Celtic Park, where they found freedom to express their Irishness.

"The ethos of highlighting the cause of the oppressed that runs through the veins of Celtic fans stems from those roots.

"And however much the current board at Celtic might object to the following comment, the reality is that this is not a football club, it is a ‘movement’."
