Celtic fans stage sit in protest over Bernard Higgins as Parkhead board sent another message over police chief's potential appointment

Celtic fans have sent another clear message to the board over the potential appointment of Bernard Higgins by staging a sit-in protest at Parkhead following their win over Aberdeen.

The former Police Scotland commander has been rumoured to be landing a top senior security role at Celtic Park.

Higgins was heavily involved in the creation of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act in 2012. The Fans Against Criminalisation campaign group said it had ended trust between supporters and police.

The FAC also warned of 'genuine danger to civil liberties' if the act wasn't axed like it was in 2018. The act only applied to football fans and aimed to deal with sectarian behaviour such as bigoted chanting.

Over 100 Celtic fan groups told the club's board earlier this week they would not co-operate with Higgins if his appointment was made official.

The latest protest sees supporters sectioned in the Green Brigade area of Parkhead refusing to leave the stands, following a display against Higgins during the game.

Some supporters threw tennis balls onto the pitch in a match away to Dundee earlier this month to signify the ball was in Celtic's court over the appointment, with fans' feelings made clear.

The Hoops beat Aberdeen 2-1 thanks to goals from Jota and Callum McGregor. It moved them back to four points off the Premiership's top spot.
