Celtic fans hit with Aberdeen travel setback as Scotrail staff shortages cause chaos after Premiership opener

Celtic fans have been told there will be NO trains running from Dalmarnock station following their clash with Aberdeen on Sunday. And while there is no strike action scheduled for the day of the game, Scotrail insist it is down to "staff shortages" - urging fans to use Bellgrove or Bridgeton stations instead.

Thousands of Celtic fans normally plot their journey through Dalmarnock on the day of home games given it is the closest station to Parkhead, less than a mile from the stadium. But the rail operator have confirmed that services will stop before the final whistle in the Hoops' Premiership opener with Aberdeen.

The two sides are set to clash at Celtic Park on Sunday July 31 with a 4.30pm kick-off, with the last train departing Dalmarnock at 6.13pm. That's two minutes before the game would be due to finish, without factoring in stoppage time or the short walk to the station.

A statement from the Celtic Supporter Liaison Officer reads: "Confirmation that we have been notified by Scotrail that the last train from Dalmarnock Station departs at 18:13 on Sunday. This means there will be no service from this station after the match is finished and fans are advised to arrange alternative transport options at FT."

A follow-up from Scotrail reads: "There are no trains from Dalmarnock station after 1813 on Sunday. There is no strike action planned for Sunday. We have full details on the Network Rail strike and the dates here."

Scotrail advise fans using their services to get home to use either Bridgeton or Bellgrove stations. Bridgeton runs services to Glasgow Central and Bellgrove runs to Queen Street, with both services operating late into the night.
