Celtic fans dispersed by police after gathering at McDiarmid Park amid Boxing Day fan shut out

Celtic fans were dispersed by police after gathering in Perth in an attempt to watch their Boxing Day victory over St Johnstone.

Pictures show groups of football fans waving flags while stood on an embankment ahead of the Premiership match at McDiarmid Park today.

It comes after Nicola Sturgeon announced new rules and restrictions, starting today, in a bid to stem Omicron cases.

This means football matches will be capped at 500 fans, including today's Scottish Premiership fixtures.

Nicola Sturgeon previously said the limit for outdoor events will apply for up to three weeks and one metre physical distancing will also be required - first revealed by the Record.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers on patrol came across a small group gathered outside the football stadium on Crieff Road, Perth on Sunday 26 December.

"Officers engaged with them and they later dispersed."
