Celtic fans discover Lazio ticket fate after UEFA move racism probe forward

Celtic fans will find out today if UEFA will close the entire Stadio Olimpico for their trip to face Lazio next month.

Neil Lennon's men take on the Italian giants in the Europa League in November 7 but fascist salutes made by supporters in the Curva Nord section could lead to a heavy sanctions.

UEFA originally stated they would announce their decision on proceedings against Lazio by Thursday, but they have now brought forward the case.

Because Lazio have been plagued by continuous problems with their fans, there are real fears UEFA will order their next European match  - against Celtic in Rome next month - to be played entirely behind closed doors.

But the Italians are hoping Celtic's fanatical support could actually help that measure be avoided.

Lazio have handed Celtic a bumper allocation of 9,000 tickets with the vast majority of those fans having already stumped up for travel and accommodation costs.

And the Serie A side are hoping UEFA will take into account that by playing the match behind closed doors, it would unfairly punish those fans who have already forked out for the trip.

Lazio have already had part of their stadium closed this season for previous offences and both they and Celtic fans will be hoping their punishment isn't too severe.
