Celtic fans' controversial 'F**k off Rod' Stewart banner backed by Show Racism the Red Card founder

The founder of an anti-racism football charity has backed Celtic fans who unveiled a banner telling after his comments congratulating Boris Johnson.

Show Racism the Red Card's Ged Grebby called supporters "brilliant" on Twitter after they sent a clear message to the legendary rocker at Parkhead .

It comes after the 74-year-old stunned some supporters on Friday with a Twitter message to the Prime Minister congratulating him on his election triumph.

Fans in the Green Brigade section unveiled an anti-Tory banner at their side's 2-0 win against Hibs which read: "Tories not welcome, f**k off Rod" .

Grebby wrote on Twitter: "Brilliant by Celtic fans: 'Tories not welcome' - Celtic fans aim banner at Rod Stewart during Hibs game after singer's backing for #BorisJohnson."

Despite the Tories' popularity south of the border, a recent YouGov poll revealed two thirds of Scottish voters consider the PM untrustworthy.

The SNP dominated constituencies in Scotland, increasing its vote share and total number of MPs to 48.

But Stewart, who had just scooped the UK No1 Album, wrote on Twitter: "Thank you once again to my legions of fans who I will never take for granted.

"Bless you all and a Merry Christmas. Well done Robbie, well done Boris, no hard feelings Pete Townshend! - Rod xxx."

But Grebby's reaction didn't go down well with all social media users, with some questioning whether the comments were appropriate given his position.

Blair Pettigrew wrote: "Wow - in your position Ged and the work you do are you promoting the exclusion of a section of society from a sporting event based on their political beliefs?

"Tolerance, understanding and acceptance of our differences not something you believe in?"

While @Barclay710 commented: "Let me get this straight, racism isn’t acceptable but that outrageous banner by so called Celtic fans gets your approval?"

And a third users posted: "In your position, do you think you should be saying this?"

We previously told how Scottish TV and radio star Dominik Diamond also backed the Green Brigade’s X-rated banner.

Dominik - who now works as a radio presenter in Canada - tweeted: “Celtic are a club for all.

"But Celtic were also set up to help poor immigrants. The Tories do not want to help the poor or immigrants. They want to make it impossible for them to live safe, warm and fed.

"Therefore perfectly acceptable to express anti-Tory sentiment in Celtic Park.”
