Celtic fans are still divided on this transfer and it's from one extreme to the other

Dedryck Boyata is a name that continues to divide the opinion of Celtic fans even after his departure to Hertha Berlin last summer.

The Belgian defender signed from Manchester City on this day (June 2) in 2015 for around £1.5million.

The 29-year-old made over 100 appearances for the club in his four seasons before leaving for the Bundesliga on a free transfer.

His time at Parkhead was by no means straightforward though.

The centre-half struggled in his first two years where he was prone to mistakes and making rash decisions that gave the impression his stay in the Scottish Premiership wasn't going to last long.

But not only did he cement his place in Brendan Rodgers' side, he starred for his country in the 2018 World Cup, a generational Belgium side, that finished third in the tournament.

Boyata worked hard to improve his physicality and ironed out the mistakes he used to make with such regularity.

But he could never really shake off that 'bombscare' tag and when he did make the odd lapse in judgment, fans would be quick to remember it and get on his back.

But others recognised his improvement and the consistency he showed towards the end of his stay.

And as Celtic supporters reminisced about his time at the club, five years on, there was a common theme throughout their debate.

It's from either one extreme to the other.
