Celtic fan rockstar Bobby Gillespie reveals his first football kit was Rangers strip

Rock star and Celtic fan Bobby Gillespie has revealed his first football kit was a Rangers strip.

The Primal Scream singer fell in love with the Parkhead team in the 60s despite his grandparents giving him a Gers top for his sixth birthday.

Gillespie, 59, who once said he loved the Celts more than his wife, said: “I didn’t know what football was. I wanted a cowboy or cavalryman outfit.

“I went up to their flat in London Road (ironically very close to Celtic Park) and they dressed me in this Rangers shirt and I didn’t know what it was.”

He added in his new memoir Tenement Kid: “It was the classic 1960s Jim Baxter-era strip – blue jersey with white V-neck, white shorts, black socks.”
