Celtic fan protest to go ahead but focus of fan fury will shift away from Neil Lennon and players

The Celtic Trust will still carry out their planned protest ahead of tomorrow’s game, but will direct their anger at the bard rather than the team.

The fans’ group will stage a ‘covid compliant’ demonstration ahead of tomorrow’ Scottish Premiership clash against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park.

They claimed earlier this week that they had been working with the club and police in order to arrange a protest that would allow them to make their feelings known.

The group were warned against protesting before the game with ‘legal and safety’ issues being cited as a reason why.

But the event will take place as planned and will be timed to coincide with the squad’s arrival at the stadium.

Neil Lennon had urged fans to ‘ease up’ as the players were being affected by the displays of anger shown over the last few weeks.

And it seems he’ll get his wish, at least in part, with punters encouraged to direct their ire at majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, chief executive Peter Lawell and the board.

A Celtic Trust statement read: "We were advised by the police yesterday that the assurances from Celtic that the demonstration would not coincide with the team's arrival were 'incorrect'.

"We call on everyone who attends tomorrow to show support for the team and to focus their justifiable anger on the board."
