Celtic fan leaves Rangers hero Alex Rae in stitches with 'tainted' Veolia Trophy claim

A Celtic fan reduced former Rangers stalwart Alex Rae to laughter after he claimed the Ibrox club's pre-season Veolia Trophy win was "tainted".

Steven Gerrard 's side lifted the trophy earlier this month at the tournament in France after 2-0 wins over hosts Lyon and fellow Ligue 1 side Nice.

Celtic also competed, but they mustered a 1-1 draw with the Cote d'Azur side before a Moussa Dembele inspired Lyon downed them 2-1 in the final game.

However Rangers winger Ryan Kent was shown a red card during the trophy opener for a slap on OL's Marcelo - yet was not banned for the second fixture.

That was enough to set Clyde 1 Superscoreboard caller "Frank" on the conspiracy trail as he suggested their trophy was "tainted", a jibe commonly dished out by Rangers fans to their Celtic counterparts.

It's often made regarding trophies won without the Govan club in Scotland's top division and more recently in reference to last season's Scottish Premiership, which was awarded early to the Hoops as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

But Frank decided to flip the script, in a remark that even had Light Blues hero Rae in hysterics.

Discussing the Kent red, co-host Hugh Keevins says: "Kent was sent off, Frank, but the referee did not report it. The French Football Federation..."

Frank cuts him off, and says: "That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the trophy they won, for me, in that case it's tainted."

Rae is heard chuckling before he says: "Oh Frank!"
