Celtic fan Darren Fletcher in shock Rangers confession as Manchester United hero urges Scotland to grasp opportunities

Former Scotland skipper Darren Fletcher admits he would have been more likely to sign for Rangers than Celtic during his playing career.

Although he's not officially retired yet, Fletcher hasn't played since leaving Stoke City last summer but could still make a return if any offers are made for him.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound he admitted he loves the Scottish game and is desperate for it to be sold better throughout the world and to tap into the English Premier League's market.

The ex- Manchester United midfielder didn't play any of his club football in his homeland having joined the Old Trafford side as a 15-year-old.

It's well known that he's a Celtic supporter but he made a surprise confession about Rangers during the interview and revealed they were his most likely option if he had played in Scotland.

He said: "To tell you the truth, I grew up a Celtic fan but I probably spent more time playing with Rangers and loved being around the Rangers youth set up.

"More than likely if I had signed for a Scottish club I would have signed for Rangers, believe it or not.

"I’m a big fan of Scottish football. I want the league to do well and I think it’s a fantastic product that we don’t sell it well enough.

"I’m just a big Scottish football fan and I want Scottish football to thrive. I’m a fan of Scottish football more than anything nowadays.

"If it came to it I would say I’m a Celtic fan, I’m not hiding behind that, that’s there to be seen but at the same time I’m not everything against Rangers.

"Rangers doing well in Europe, I love seeing it. I loved their Europa League run this year. I’ve been in England for so long I’m probably more of a Manchester United fan than anything.

"I love Scottish football, it’s a breath of fresh air watching it but I honestly don’t think we sell it enough. Look at the Bundesliga today how everyone is excited to watch it. There’s an opportunity after the Premier League in England and before the Premier League that we should be trying to tap into as much as we can and show what we’re about."
