Celtic fan chief shares 'hostile takeover' fears as supporters' trust meeting hailed as game changer

A former Celtic Supporter’s Association chief has claimed Celtic are run by "corporate puppets" as he called for fans to keep the pressure on the board.

Well-respected Eddie Toner shared a series of social media updates in the wake of Saturday's virtual Celtic trust meeting that was attended by 300 followers of the Premiership champions.

Tensions have been raised off the park in the wake of Neil Lennon 's side winning only two of their last 11 matches.

Tempers flared in the wake of the Betfred Cup nightmare against Ross County as violent scenes erupted and players and staff were led away by a police escort.

But Toner believes now is the time to keep pressure on Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell in the wake of the Green Brigade's planned protest for Sunday being met with resistance from Police Scotland.

He said: "Now more than ever the Celtic support need unity. The Celtic Trust are the obvious vehicle to provide that unity and hold the Plc board to account.

"Our board need independent thinkers not corporate puppets! The disconnect between fan and board is as wide now as I’ve ever known."

And Toner, in a week when departing Rangers chief Dave King passed his shares on to fan group Club 1872, believes more must be done to get voices from the terrace heard at the top level at Parkhead.

He added: "The most alarming thing for me from today’s meeting was when @Heavidor pointed out how susceptible we are to a hostile takeover.

"We cannot allow that to happen. Join The Celtic Trust and help protect our club's future."
