Celtic fan arrested over Barrie McKay incident after Hearts star was hit by bottle during Premiership clash

A 24-year-old has been arrested Hearts star Barrie McKay was hit by a bottle at Celtic Park.

The former Rangers winger was targeted as he attempted to take a corner in the second half of the 1-0 win for Celtic on Wednesday night.

Various other missiles - including coins and other bottles - were aimed at McKay but it was the bottle which struck him during the game.

And Police Scotland have confirmed they arrested an individual over the incident and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

A statement from the Police said: “A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with items thrown onto the pitch during a match at Celtic Park during the evening of Thursday, 2 December.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and further enquiries are ongoing.”

Referee Bobby Madden spoke to McKay at the time but the game continued while further objects were aimed at the winger.

Celtic fans had started the match by staging a protest against potential new security chief Bernard Higgins.

Chants of 'Stand up if you hate Higgins' reverberated around the stadium while banners were also held up against him.
