Celtic 'face Southampton battle' to sign winger recognised as one of world's fastest players

A Celtic-linked Austrian winger recognised as one of the fastest players in world football is attracting interest from the English Premier League.

Husein Balic, nicknamed 'The Sprinter', has been tipped for a move to Celtic Park in recent times.

However Neil Lennon will need to fight off competition from the top flight in England if he is to secure the player's signature.

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are now interested in pursuing a deal for the 24-year-old, who currently plays his football with LASK Linz.

The Mail say he is regarded as one of the fastest players in football, and was recorded running at 39 km/h in an Austrian U-21 match against France. He's also said to have ran 20 metres in just 2.75 seconds.

He played for LASK in their recent 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League, but has been in fine form for the club this season.

Reports suggest Balic, who still has more than three years left on his contract, could be allowed to leave his club for just £2.8 million in January, sparking interest from clubs including Celtic. Brentford are also reportedly interested in the player.
