Celtic face Patryk Klimala transfer battle as Genoa 'surpass' Hoops in striker race

It's reported in Italy that Genoa have moved ahead of Celtic in the race for Jagiellonia Bialystok striker Patryk Klimala .

The 21-year-old is believed to have a €4million (£3.4m) release clause in his contract and after nine goals in all competitions so far this season he's caught the eye of Neil Lennon and the recruitment team.

It was reported in Poland yesterday that Celtic were pushing to get a deal over the line, though Genoa have also been credited with interest.

Now Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport is reporting that the Grifone have pulled ahead in the race to sign Klimala and talks are down to the final details.

They believe Genoa could close the deal in the coming days as they look to add goals to a side which is struggling down in 19th place in Serie A.

The Ligurian side have had previous success shopping in the Polish market, having signed Krzysztof Piatek for €4m in the summer of 2018 and sold him to Milan for €35m just six months later.

Jagiellonia Bialystok are keen to keep hold of the youngster but his agent confirmed this week that a January transfer is likely.

Tomasz Magdziarz said: "There are many rumors during transfer windows and it is difficult to respond to any of them.

"We don't want publicity, particularly on this issue, but I can confirm we're holding some talks on Patryk's behalf.

"The window is still open for a long time, so many things could still happen. I think that during the next week we will know more."
