Celtic are set to face Dundalk on Saturday - if the Irish champions receive clearance from their government to travel to Scotland to play.
Neil Lennon ’s side conclude their pre-season trip to France on Tuesday with a contest against Paris Saint-Germain, but have no dates confirmed for any warm-up matches upon their return.
Dundalk have played Derry City, Bohemians and Drogheda United in recent friendlies.
However, the Irish Mirror report the League of Ireland champions have a gap in their schedule on Saturday ahead of their first league game back against St Pat’s on Friday week and it’s understood Celtic have provisionally agreed to fill the void by hosting the game.
Dundalk, though, are still waiting to discover their government’s decision after a delay to announcements over the phase four reopening of the country until August 10 put a major spanner in the works.
The United Kingdom looks set to be excluded from the government’s ‘green list’ of travel destinations during the coronavirus pandemic.
People arriving into Ireland from the countries listed won’t have to self isolate when they arrive, but, although the list was due to be published yesterday, a Cabinet meeting to sign off on it was postponed.
Dundalk are seeking clarity on whether Scotland will be classified as a standalone destination or fall under the UK umbrella.
If it is the latter, the friendly won’t be played as the Dundalk players and staff would have to quarantine for two weeks on their return.
