Celtic extend best wishes to departing players but there's one man missing

Celtic have extended their best wishes to a host of departing players as the club undergoes a major squad shake-up.

No fewer than 12 first-team players have left the club so far this summer as contracts expire and loan deals come to an end.

The Premiership champions posted a message on their official website, admitting their gratitude to those who are moving on to pastures new.

Well, all except Marvin Compper .

The flop defender joined Duisburg last week as his nightmare spell in Glasgow finally came to an end with a grand total of one appearance under his belt.

Celtic announced his departure with a single Tweet last week after it was agreed his contract would be torn up.

It said: "Celtic FC can announce that Marvin Compper has left the club by mutual agreement following the termination of his contract."

And on Sunday, the Hoops sent thanks to Dorus de Vries, Emilio Izaguirre, Cristian Gamboa, Regan Hendry, Dedryck Boyata, Filip Benkovic, Scott Allan, Youssouf Mulumbu, Oliver Burke and Jeremy Toljan.

But it appears there's no such good feeling towards Compper as he was omitted from the list entirely.

Meanwhile, Celtic also confirmed a number of loan players will also be leaving.

Reece Willison, Ross McLaughlin, Wallace Duffy, Thomas Caffrey, Lewis Bell, Ciaran Diver, PJ Crossan and Kristi Marku have all headed for the Parkhead exit door.

Neil Lennon, meanwhile, has been busy adding to his squad ahead of the new season.

The Celtic boss has already brought in Christopher Jullien, Luca Connell and Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo to the tune of more than £10million.

Brentford's Romain Sawyers is a midfield target after a move for Motherwell's David Turnbull collapsed.
