Celtic Europa League success put in context as Lazio go on record-breaking run

When Celtic grabbed their first-ever win on Italian soil it was clear that it was a momentous result.

A dramatic win over Lazio at Celtic Park was followed up by a legendary Europa League night at the Stadio Olimpico as the Hoops took a famous 2-1 win.

Manager Neil Lennon insisted the result was up there with the win over Barcelona, and recent results show that might not have been too far off.

While Lazio clearly aren't on the level of that Barça side, their sensational form in recent months proves they were no easy opponent for Celtic.

Ciro Immobile's late winner against Napoli this evening saw them win a club record 10th Serie A game in a row and go within three points of Inter and Juventus at the top of the table.

That run has seen Simone Inzaghi's side beat Milan and Juve, while they also defeated Maurizio Sarri's side to win the Italian Super Cup.

Lazio have failed to win only three times since a draw with Atalanta in Rome on October 19 - two losses to Celtic and a defeat to Rennes in a dead rubber Europa League game.

Since that Atalanta draw they've scored 29 goals in 14 matches across all competitions, showing just how well Celtic did to beat them twice.
