Celtic Europa League foes Cluj warm up for Glasgow trip with comfortable win over Gaz Metan

CFR Cluj warmed up for their trip to face Celtic on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Gaz Metan.

The Romanian champions knocked Neil Lennon's side out of the Champions League in the third qualifying round, winning 4-3 at Parkhead after a 1-1 draw at home.

That dumped Neil Lennon's men into the Europa League and Dan Petrescu's side soon joined them when they were eliminated by Slavia Prague in the play-off round.

Perhaps inevitably the two sides were drawn together again in the group stages, alongside Lazio and Rennes.

Thursday night sees Cluj return to Glasgow, and they warmed up with a convincing victory over Gaz Metan.

It took the hosts just 21 minutes to open the scoring, with Vinicius getting on the end of Ciprean Deac's free-kick, heading the ball down so the bounce could take it into the top corner.

Deac showed his set piece prowess once again as he provided the second goal, swinging in a free-kick from the right which was converted by Kevin Boli.

Bilel Omrani made sure of the points just before the hour mark as he converted his side's third goal of the evening.

Cluj were in cruise control for the remainder of the match and the win ensures they hold on to top spot in the table.

Next up, Celtic.

And Petrescu says he expects a response from Lennon's side following the events at Parkhead last month.

He told Digisport: "They (Celtic) were beaten by us and eliminated by us, so they'll definitely have an extra motivation, that much is clear.

"We've put pressure on ourselves after this win (over Lazio) and now we have to try and withstand this pressure and try to get out of the group, which is not what I envisaged at the start of the group stage."
