Celtic duo in Nations League limbo as coronavirus quarantine set to rule pair out of Hibs clash

Hibernian could receive a boost ahead of their clash with Premiership champions Celtic after it emerged Kristoffer Ajer and Mohamed Elyounoussi may be stranded in Norway following a government decision on players leaving the country.

The pair were grounded in Oslo as they prepared to jet out to Romania for Sunday's now-aborted Nations League fixture in Bucharest following a positive COVID-19 test within the squad.

Defender Omar Elabdellaoui was confirmed as the positive result, but the Celtic duo may be required to complete their ten days isolation in the Norwegian capital after the country's health authorities put the breaks on their Romanian trip.

According to reports in Norway, the duo will be permitted to fly back to Glasgow, but must await a Scottish Government decision on whether they should remain in quarantine when they arrive.

It means they would miss the trip to Easter Road on Saturday, handing Jack Ross a significant boost for his preparations to welcome Neil Lennon's side.

Elyounoussi has scored three times in three games against the Leith outfit, including in Celtic's 3-0 win at Parkhead in September.

The Glasgow side have already been hit by COVID call-offs, with four players, Nir Bitton, Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard and Hatem Abd Elhamed sitting out the defeat to Rangers after either testing positive or coming into contact with another player who did while on international duty last month.

Ross is yet to beat Celtic as Hibs boss, with five goals conceded in two defeats so far.

The Easter Road side will likely have their trio of international players back, with Alex Gogic, Ofir Marciano and Ryan Porteous each with one game left of their national side commitments.
