Celtic draw Boris Johnson comparison as Lib Dem MP sticks the boot into Scottish football

Former Liberal Democrats leader Tim Farron has aimed a cheeky dig at Celtic after comparing them to Boris Johnson and the Tories.

The MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale hit out at the Prime Minister while also putting the boot into the Premiership champions.

Farron queried broadcaster Toby Young's praise for BBC's documentary focusing on the build-up ahead of last week's General Election .

And the 49-year-old reckons Celtic 's "abysmal" opposition at home and their record in Europe draws parallels with Bojo and his advisor Dominic Cummings.

He wrote on Twitter: "You are half right at best - BJ (Boris Johnson) and DC (Dominic Cummings) are basically Celtic: anyone can win the title if your opposition is abysmal.... and then you get humiliated in Europe."

Farron's pop certainly appears misplaced judging what has transpired this season and by extension is comparing the Ibrox side to the Labour Party.

Rangers are rejuvenated under Steven Gerrard with just two points separating the pair at the top of the Premiership table.

And Celtic certainly haven't been "humiliated" in Europe , far from it, with Neil Lennon's side winning their Europa League group en route to the last 32 where they are joined by Rangers.

Farron's dig comes days after the club's Green Brigade told Hoops superfan Rod Stewart to "F*** Off" for his social media shout out to Johnson after his election.
