Celtic discover Ryan Christie Rangers fate after Kieran Tierney is cleared for Arsenal return

Celtic's call to have Ryan Christie available for derby day has been rejected by the Scottish government.

The midfielder was expected to miss the game against Rangers on Saturday as he was isolating for 14 days, along with Kieran Tierney, after Stuart Armstrong tested positive for coronavirus on international duty with Scotland.

But after Tierney was cleared to cut his quarantine short and return for Arsenal's match with Manchester City, Neil Lennon was hopeful Christie would get the same reprieve.

But Celtic's request has been knocked back by the Scottish government as they made it clear coming in close contact with a person who has tested positive requires the full 14 days of isolation.

Lennon demanded answers earlier on Friday and claimed the Parkhead club's efforts to get to the bottom of Christie's decision has been met with "resistance".

He said: "We would be very confused and want answers, that Kieran Tierney is allowed to play and Ryan has been refused to play.

"It would be very confusing and I think our supporters would want to know the answers as well.

"Peter (Lawwell) and the board have been pushing this since day one and we have had no clarification, if anything we have just been met with complete resistance so far."

The Hoops have been decimated during the international break as multiple players tested positive for the virus.

Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton are ruled out, while Odsonne Edouard is huge doubt for the showdown at Parkhead.

The striker arrived back in Glasgow on Friday after isolating in France for ten days.
