Celtic confirm lineup for Hamilton Accies season opener as Vasilis Barkas is named on bench

Vasilis Barkas has been named on the bench for this afternoon's match by Neil Lennon.

Celtic begin their bid to win a historic tenth successive title this afternoon against Hamilton Accies, who finished 11th in last season's Premiership.

Celtic won all three fixtures between the side last season, registering 1-0 and 4-1 victories at New Douglas Park either side of a 4-1 win at Celtic Park.

Barkas, who has made 10 appearances for the Greek national side, arrived at Celtic Park on Thursday from AEK Athens.

The 26-year-old said: “Winning medals and trophies is why I came here.

"I want to win 10 in-a-row, and I want to help us get into the Champions League. That’s what I want."

There is no place in the squad today for Leigh Griffiths, who missed Celtic's pre-season trip to France as Lennon felt he wasn't fit enough.

The striker played the final 30 minutes of Monday's 3-1 friendly win against Hibs but has failed to make the cut for this afternoon's match.
