Celtic confirm Giorgos Giakoumakis signing as Greek hitman pens 5-year deal

Celtic have confirmed the singing of Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis from VVV-Venlo.

The Hoops had been on the lookout for a new striker as speculation continues to swirl around Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths ahead of the transfer deadline.

French hitman Thomas Henry and Hibs star Kevin Nisbet were both linked but moves never materialised.

Giakoumakis emerged as their number one target earlier this month with Ange Postecoglou calling to discuss a move in his native Greek.

And after his move to Werder Bremen collapsed due to his wage demands, Celtic became hot favourites to strike a deal.

It's now been announced as Giakoumakis signs an five-year deal at Parkhead.

He netted 29 goals in 33 appearances last season but it wasn't enough to save Venlo from the drop.

He becomes the club's 10th summer signing and said: “I’m really delighted to commit my long term future to Celtic and I can’t wait to get started with my new team mates.

“Celtic is one of the world’s great football clubs with the best fans around. It is a Club I have admired for so long and it will now be an honour to wear this famous jersey. To know that the Manager wanted me so much to join Celtic is really humbling and it makes me know I have made the right choice.”
