Celtic clash with Rangers last thing on Neil Lennon's mind as he makes title admission

Neil Lennon says Celtic can’t give any thought to their crunch New Year clash with Rangers.

The gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership could be extended to 19 points should Rangers beat Hibs in the lunchtime kick-off.

Celtic are at Hamilton a couple of hours later and it’s that game that must be at the forefront of their minds.

A win at Ibrox on 2 January could breathe new life into Lennon’s side as they try and chip away at the lead Steven Gerrard’s men have built up.

But it won’t count for much if they take their eye off the ball against Accies today.

“We are 16 points behind and we have a lot of work to do,” said Lennon. There is no point thinking about Dundee United or Rangers in the new year.

“The focus is on Hamilton. It’s a big game and we know what is at stake. Let’s get the win and see what happens after that.

“It’s a difficult game for us. They are a stuffy team on a plastic pitch. It took us a while to win the game the last time we were there last season.

"Hamilton can get results when you least expect it and they have a strong, physical team. They are well-drilled defensively and they can be a threat from set-pieces.

“We want to maintain our momentum, but it won’t be easy. The pitch is what it is. We have to go there and show a good attitude.”
