Celtic chief replaces Rangers counterpart on SPFL board

Peter Lawwell has joined the SPFL board ahead of the new season.

The Celtic chief replaces Rangers Managing Director Stewart Robertson on the seven-strong board for 2020/21.

A 'gentleman's agreement' is in place which sees the two clubs trade places on the board every year.

Confirming the changes, SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan said: “Our game is facing a series of challenges unlike anything it has ever experienced, and everyone involved in Scottish football is working tirelessly to restart matches soon.

“The SPFL directors have a key role to play in navigating those challenges and I’m pleased to welcome them on board for what promises to be a unique season ahead.

“Thanks to the dedication of thousands of people involved in our game, we are within touching distance of matches being resumed.

"It’s vital that we maintain that vigilance and discipline as we move towards a greater semblance of normality for our teams and for the supporters up and down the country who form the backbone of our sport.”

THE SEVEN-MAN BOARD

Scottish Premiership Steve Brown (St Johnstone) Les Gray (Hamilton Academical) and Peter Lawwell (Celtic).

Scottish Championship : Ewen Cameron (Alloa Athletic) and Ross McArthur (Dunfermline Athletic)

Scottish League One and Scottish League Two:  Ken Ferguson (Brechin City).

Those seven men will sit on the board alongside chairman Murdoch MacLennan, SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster and independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey.
