Celtic chief Peter Lawwell receives SPFL support as league condemns 'cowardly' fire bomb attack

The Scottish Professional Football League has rallied around board member Peter Lawwell in the wake of the frightening fire bomb attack on his home.

The Celtic chief executive and his family miraculously escaped unharmed after a fire blazed through parts of his house in Thortonhall after cars were set alight.

Scottish football has been stunned in the wake of images that showed the charred property after emergency services were called to Peel Road in Thorntonhall at around 1am on Wednesday

Police officers have released a description of a man seen pouring a flammable liquid on three cars parked outside the chief executive's home.

And the SPFL have moved to show solidarity with the outgoing Parkhead chief during the traumatic time for him and his family.

A statement read: “Every decent football fan will unite in absolute condemnation of the thugs responsible for this cowardly act.

“It’s difficult for normal, civilised people to comprehend the mindset of those who would plan and execute such a horrific crime.

“The consequences for Peter and his family could have been far, far worse and our thoughts go out to them as they deal with the aftermath of this awful, premeditated attack.”
