Celtic captain Scott Brown in shock Aberdeen link as former teammate opens Dons coaching door

Scott Brown could be set for a shock move to Aberdeen as the Pittodrie outfit’s number two, according to reports.

The 35-year-old’s Celtic contract expires at the end of the season following a 14-year stint at Parkhead and has made no secret of his desire to move into coaching.

Atlanta United 2 boss and former Dons midfielder Stephen Glass is frontrunner to replace Derek McInnes and wants to take friend Brown and highly-regarded England striking coach Allan Russell with him as part of a new backroom team.

The pair played together at Hibernian and have remained in contact since, though Brown is said to be considering his future at Celtic first.

The Parkhead side are preparing for a summer overhaul which could see a new manager installed to replace interim boss John Kennedy, as well as a director of football in a newly-created role to work under incoming chief executive Dominic McKay.

The Sun reports the Dons deal would see Brown prolong his playing career alongside the job as assistant boss.

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack and Darren Eales, who is also on the board at MLS partner Atlanta, are expected to make their final decision in the coming weeks with the side still in the hunt for third in the Scottish Premiership.

Youth coaches Paul Sheerin and Barry Robson will take temporary charge of the side ahead of the trip to Dundee United next weekend.
