Celtic captain Scott Brown faces no action on tackle that left ex-Rangers man with 'studs down hip'

Celtic skipper Scott Brown has escaped an SFA rap over a collision with St Johnstone midfielder Michael O'Halloran in Sunday's game at Parkhead.

The former Rangers winger was substituted by the Perth side after being caught by Brown's trailing leg in the 1-1 draw that saw the Premiership champions lose further ground on their Glasgow rivals.

St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson told Saints TV that O'Halloran was left with "studs down the side of his hip" as a result of the coming together.

Chris Kane replaced the 29-year-old after just 26 minutes before going on to score Saints' goal late on that looked to have struck a hammer blow to Celtic's title hopes.

Mohamed Elyounoussi rescued a point for Neil Lennon's side seven minutes from time, but it could have been worse for the hosts had referee David Munro produced a card for Brown inside the opening half an hour.

The Celtic captain was not carded however and league chiefs are satisfied any contact made with the Perth winger was accidental after reviewing footage of the challenge, according to the Scottish Sun.

Brown made his 600th appearance for the club in the fixture but was substituted after 59 minutes.

Davidson confirmed the winger would be assessed during the week to determine whether he would be ready for the weekend clash with Livingston.

He added: "His hip seized up and he has massive big stud marks and there's a bit of swelling there.

"We will need to have a look at that this week."
