Celtic Boys’ Club sex abuse victim's mum demands public inquiry after Jim McCafferty conviction

The mum of Celtic Boys’ Club abuse victim Andrew Gray has called for a public inquiry following the conviction of beast Pervert ex-Celtic coach 'exploited dreams of football kids to satisfy sexual depravity'

Helene Gray has already taken her fight for a full probe to the Scottish Parliament following the conviction of Andrew’s abuser, boys’ club founder Jim Torbett.

Andrew died in October 2017 following an accident on holiday in Australia.

The 41-year-old never faced evil Torbett in court but his testimony given to police was a major part of the evidence against the serial child sex abuser.

McCafferty became the fourth man connected with Celtic Boys’ Club to be convicted of child sex offences in recent years. He was jailed for almost seven years at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Celtic Boys' Club paedo ring claim as lawyer outlines sex beast connections

Torbett, 71, Frank Cairney, 83, and Gerrard King, 66, have all been convicted of the sex abuse of children, though King, whose offences were at a school, avoided jail.

Lawyers acting for victims have told the Record they believe a paedophile ring was in operation.

Helene, 71, said on social media: “Please support the countless victims, survivors and families in our quest for an independent inquiry into Celtic Boys’ Club.

“Why were so many young boys allowed to be sexually abused playing the game they loved?

“Also, will there be a statement from Nicola Sturgeon or Scottish Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf commending the bravery of the victims and survivors of the Celtic child sex abuse scandal?”

Andrew was not among McCafferty’s victims. But when the Record tracked McCafferty down to a house in Northern Ireland in 2016 – and he admitted the abuse – Andrew told his sister Michelle that he hoped McCafferty would “squeal”.

Police have urged other victims and survivors to contact them with any further information.

A police source said: “We know there are many other victims out there and we would really urge them to come forward.

“They will be treated with the utmost respect and understanding by our team. They deserve to have their voice heard if that’s what they need – and we would encourage them to lift the phone to us.”
