Celtic boss seeks advice from 'great' Martin O'Neill in treble quest

Celtic boss Neil Lennon will seek last-minute advice from Nottingham Forest's Martin O'Neill ahead of Saturday's William Hill Scottish Cup final.

The freshly crowned Scottish champions will take on Hearts at Hampden Park, as the Hoops look to complete their third domestic treble in a row.

Despite only being an interim boss during his current term, drafted in to replace Brendan Rodgers in February, the 47-year-old could lift his seventh trophy as Celtic boss this weekend, making him the club's fourth most successful ever manager.

The triumph will also see him equal the number that City Ground chief O'Neill scooped during his five years at Parkhead.

But Lennon's former boss still remains a mentor 14 years on from Celtic's 1-0 win over Dundee United that clinched their last of 10 trophies together as player and manager.

“I spoke to Martin on Friday and I’ll probably have another catch up either Friday or Saturday morning,” said Lennon, an ex-Reds midfielder himself, speaking to the Scottish Herald.

“He’s pleased for me, put it that way. I owe him a lot and I think he’s pleased to see me doing okay. You value that stuff, of course you do.

"It’s normally me ringing Martin because he’s like Lord Lucan and disappears off the face of the earth, but he’s great.

“To have that sort of shoulder to lean on now and again is brilliant. They know what it’s like. Brendan (Rodgers), Martin, Gordon (Strachan), they are the best people to speak with. They’ve travelled in these shoes before.”
