Celtic boss Neil Lennon vents over Ryan Christie's extended Scotland role as he admits it 'didn't please' him

Peeved Neil Lennon admits he wasn't pleased with Steve Clarke for failing to give his star turn Ryan Christie a breather during his Marathon Man Scotland exertions.

The Celtic playmaker was the hero in Serbia as he played 85 minutes before the full 90 in consecutive Nations League clashes with Slovakia and Israel.

When asked about his players getting a break during their time away on international duty, the Hoops boss was quick to respond.

He said: “Well he (Steve Clarke) didn’t rest Ryan - that didn’t please me.

“It was three 90 minutes in six days which is a big ask for any individual.

"So I think Steve tried to balance his squad as best he could but it looked like he didn't want to play without Ryan in the games.

"I can't be over critical of it but we would have liked him to have missed some of the games anyway but he's played in all three!"

Meanwhile, Hoops boss is relishing the return of domestic action against Hibs as he looks to close the gap on rivals Rangers by close the gap to six points at the Premiership summit.

And Celtic go into the trip to Edinburgh in good shape but the game might come too soon for Chris Jullien.

The Frenchman is nearing his return after two months out but isn't expected to travel with the squad to the capital on Saturday.

He added: "Thankfully we’ve no fresh injuries from the internationals which is great.

"They’re all buoyant, everyone had a touch of success when away and we’re really pleased to have them back in good spirits.

"(Jullien) maybe not fit for tomorrow but definitely this week, whether it be Sparta or Ross County. He’s started training and feeling good but tomorrow’s too soon for him."

And Lennon confirmed that Jeremie Frimpng has avoided serious injury in the wake of Devante Cole's crunching tackle on him during the win at Fir Park.

He said: "He’s fine, there's no ligament damage and he's been back training for a few weeks now."
