Celtic boss Neil Lennon shuts down repeated question as frustration shows in TV interview

Frustrated Neil Lennon insists he has the backing of the Celtic board as he shut down a reporter's repeated question.

The Hoops manager was quizzed on whether he had the support of Parkhead chiefs Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond prior to the 4-1 defeat against Sparta Prague as they were knocked out of the Europa League.

Lennon was adamant they are fully behind him despite the club's current slump, reports Glasgow Live.

A question of that nature was again directed at Lennon in an interview with BT Sport after the full time whistle.

And the Northern Irishman was visibly annoyed at getting asked the same type of question and claimed nothing had changed in the space of 24 hours.

He said: "I don't know why you're asking me that when we only touched on it yesterday.

"I don't see any reason why one game and one day would change that."

Lennon insists he is still the right man for the job and can turn the tide at Celtic.

He added: "I've been in situations like this before as manager and as a player so there's no reason to think I can't (rectify things).

"They're an excellent group and I think they're just lacking a little unity at the minute. I don't know if it's because we're living through a pandemic and it's not normal. There are things maybe out of their control and they are missing the atmosphere from the fans.

"I think we need to adapt to that, it's not a footballing issue I think it's more of a psychological issue.

"I know this group better than anybody. The end of last year when we lost to Rangers,we were slaughtered and every one was writing us off whether it be our own supporters or everybody else in the game, saying the league was over.

"But we put together a great run in the second half of the season. This feels a little different, we've got a little more work to do. It's not beyond us though, far from it."
