Celtic boss Neil Lennon provides injury update as Mikey Johnston suffers setback

Celtic youngster Mikey Johnston could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the 21-year-old winger may require surgery for issues with his calves.

Johnston was not included in the Celtic squad that travelled to France for friendly matches against Nice, Lyon and PSG.

Lennon has also provided updates on Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Tom Rogic and Hatem Abd Elhamed.

As quoted in the Glasgow Times, Lennon said: “He’s got an injury and he’s back home. Mikey has been having problems with his calves and he needs to see a specialist.

“He’s not had much luck. It’s been a bit stop-start but with his age and going through the maturation process he’s picking up injuries. It’s frustrating for him and frustrating for us.

“Bayo has an injury too and he is getting treatment.

“And Tom Rogic rolled his ankle towards the last day in Loughborough but he should be back for Tuesday.

“Hatem Elhamed took a sore one tonight but he is alright. He was struggling a little and he rolled his ankle but he should be okay.”

Lennon's men face PSG on Tuesday as Celtic wrap up their series of French friendlies, before beginning their Premiership campaign at home against Hamilton Accies on August 2nd.
