Celtic boss Neil Lennon pinpoints the only thing which can end treble Treble dream

Neil Lennon insists only their own complacency can deny Celtic a treble Treble.

The Hoops already have the Premiership title all but in the bag.

Now he reckons they can see off Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final to leave the Hoops 90 minutes away from history at Hampden.

Just so long as they keep their foot to the floor.

Stand-in boss Lennon suffered damaging defeats at the National Stadium in his last stint in charge, with shock losses to unfancied Ross County, St Mirren and Kilmarnock.

But he is confident the current crop of Celtic stars won’t suffer a similar fate – as long as they don’t think that the hard work is already done.

Stand-in boss Lenny said: “This team is different from the one I had. They only know success.

“They’re younger but the mentality is good.

“I was impressed with their approach to the Rangers league game last month.

“They were sharp and focused and I’m lookingfor more of the same against the Dons.

“Our only enemy will be complacency.

“But I’m sure people like Scott Brown and Callum McGregor will make sure it’s not in place.

“There is not much for me to tweak, if anything. It is just for me to keep them primed and ready to go.”

Lennon admits he already has his pre-game message in his head for this afternoon as he endeavours to earn
the Parkhead job on a permanent basis.

However, he insists that his players won’t need much motivation before facing the Dons today.

He said: “I don’t think they’ll need much firing up.

“Last weekend’s draw with Livingston and the criticism, rightly or wrongly as a result, means that there will be
no complacency going into this game.

“And to be fair they’ve handled Cup competitions perfectly over the last two and a half years.

“I’m hoping there’s going to be no hiccup but we’ll be ready if there is. Having some big-game players in the team already is huge.

“It is not as if they’re going into it for the first time – not that I am either.”

Lennon’s last semi-final against Aberdeen didn’t end well – his Hibs team losing 3-2 two years ago to a Dons team which included Ryan Christie and Johnny Hayes, both of whom are on his Celtic side today.

He said: “At this stage of the competition you are almost there so semi-finals can be fraught and tense.

“We are playing against a very good side who have had some positive results in this competition already.

“But our guys have done two Trebles in a row and are well capable of a third.

“It’s remarkable what they are trying to achieve.”

Lennon wants the league title won as soon as possible to allow him to give his players a holiday, even before the Cup Final if they make it.

He said: “Everything is in place for pre-season on June 17, things will be ready.

“My worry would be the amount of time off that they are getting because there are internationals sandwiched between that as well.

“The most important games of the season can be the first ones, when you don’t know what sort of condition they are going to be in.

“Hopefully we can give them some time off. Ideally, win the league as quickly as possible and give them a break. Give them a game then a couple of weeks off.

“We have done that before and benefitted. It is just trying to find the balance because they will be flogged to death eventually.”
