Celtic boss Neil Lennon hints at £50m Kieran Tierney transfer fee as Arsenal fail with bid

Neil Lennon has confirmed that Celtic have rejected a second bid for Kieran Tierney.

Not only that, but the Hoops manager believes they could command a fee of £50million for the full-back.

Arsenal have been interested in the Scotland international for much of the summer transfer window so far, and have failed with two bids for him, with the second believed to be in the region of £25million.

The structure of the payments was reported to be the sticking point with Celtic, with money up front from Arsenal and then installments not agreed with the Scottish champions.

But Lennon has even hinted that Tierney might be worth double what Arsenal are willing to pay for him.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Lennon confirmed a second bid had been lodged, and had been rejected.

He said: "I'm sure it can be unsettling for Kieran, you all know the situation, the club's valuation of Kieran has not been met, until then we don't have a decision to make.

"I don't know what Arsenal's financial state is, I know what ours is and we're quite comfortable with the situation at the minute.

"We know there's been a second bid, the bid's been rejected and it's as you were."

And Lennon then drew comparisons between Tierney and new Manchester United signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

He added: "£50million for [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka is a lot of money and we feel that Kieran is a far more experienced and rounded full-back at this juncture in his career.

"He's an asset for us and we do have a value for the player and we rate the player very highly.

"We're certainly not going to be pushed over in any negotiations and we're in a very strong position with regard to a number of our assets in the team."
