Celtic boss Neil Lennon hails Leigh Griffiths as striker returns against Hibs

Neil Lennon has sung the praises of Leigh Griffiths following the striker's return to action.

Griffiths played the final half hour of today's 3-1 friendly win over Hibs at Celtic Park, and played a key role in Patryk Klimala's first goal.

The 29-year-old was left behind as the club travelled to France for friendlies against Nice, Lyon and PSG, with manager Lennon unhappy about the shape he'd returned to training in.

He appears to have won over his boss, however, and could yet play a part with Celtic set to begin their Premiership title defence on Sunday.

Speaking on the club's official website, Lennon said: “Leigh was great today. He looks great and it was the best I’ve seen him in a long time in terms of how he looks and his conditioning.

“I’m delighted with his response to what we’ve asked of him. He just has to maintain that now and there’s no question he’ll be a real asset to us. We’ll see how he is over the next few days. He thinks he’s maybe a week to 10 days away from being ready.”
