Celtic boss Neil Lennon explains Jozo Simunovic absence as he provides injury update for Copenhagen clash

Celtic boss Neil Lennon revealed Jozo Simunovic suffered a hamstring problem that caused him to miss Sunday's win over Aberdeen.

The centre-half impressed in the convincing win over Hearts midweek as he got on the scoresheet but was forced to sit out the trip to Pittodrie as Nir Bitton came into the side.

Simunovic has had his fair share of injury problems at Parkhead but Lennon says his omission was precautionary and he didn't want to risk the defender.

The Hoops manager says Simunovic will be assesed over the next few days, but is hopeful he will be fit for the first leg of their Europa League las-32 clash against Copenhagen on Thursday night.

He said: “It’s difficult for Jozo to play three games in a week so we are hopeful he will be alright for Thursday.”

Celtic are also sweating over the fitness of Greg Taylor for the Euro showdown who limped off in the first half against Derek McInnes' men.
