Celtic boss gushes over Newcastle star Steve Bruce has 'really tapped into'

Celtic manager Neil Lennon was left gushing over the 'brilliance' of Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old put in another man-of-the-match performance for the Magpies but couldn't inspire them to a victory over Aston Villa at St James' Park.

Dwight Gayle's first goal of the season looked to have set Newcastle on their way to victory but Ahmed Elmohamady's late header secured a vital point for the Villans.

But it was Saint-Maximin, again, who caught the eye as his explosive dribbles and pace down the right-hand side made him a constant threat.

The former Nice winger continues to improve and is quickly becoming Newcastle's principal threat.

Lennon, who was working on commentary for the game on BBC Radio 5Live after Celtic's Scottish Premiership campaign was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic, feels Steve Bruce has 'tapped into' a player who the 'Geordie fans will love'.

"Saint-Maximin showed some flashes of brilliance. Absolute brilliance," Lennon said.

"Explosive player, wants to take people on and gets you off your seat, even though there is nobody here to see it.

"We have talked a lot about him tonight and he had a great game at the weekend.

"He is a player that Steve Bruce seems to have tapped into and is really getting the best out of him.

"I think the Geordie fans will love this guy as his career progresses."
