Celtic board given 'rebellion in the air' season ticket warning as Trust chief makes brutal biscuit tin comparison

David Low insists Peter Lawwell is not the only Celtic board member who should be heading for the exit if the club hope to shift season tickets.

Low is the chairman of shareholders’ organisation The
Celtic Trust and was Fergus McCann’s financial advisor when he bought the Premiership club in 1994.

He said: “The Celtic directors are ultimately responsible for the performance of the club.

“That’s where the buck starts – it usually stops with the
manager but it starts at the top and it should end there.

“Four of the five non-executive directors – Ian
Bankier, Tom Allison, Brian Wilson and Dermot Desmond – have been there for more than nine years.

“They seem to be focusing on their achievements prior to the collapse of the team to justify everything.

“It has all been stale and it reminds me of the old board in terms of the sense of entitlement and remoteness from the fans.

“The supporters are entitled to criticise them and to ask for changes. We effectively pay their wages so they can’t argue with that, even though they might not like it.

“It’s the NEDs who have the legal responsibility to effect change. Their job is not to be nodding donkeys but to challenge decisions made by the executive.”

Low fears that fans will stay away unless there is further change but insists the Celtic Trust will keep the faith.

He said: “The Celtic Trust will have nothing to do with
boycotts or refusing to buy season tickets.

“The odds are decent there will be changes in boardroom because Celtic know there’s rebellion in the air.”

The Celtic Trust wants fans who bought shares but lost them due to family deaths or moving house to contact them at Trust@celtictrust.net to be reunited with them and have a say in the running of their club.
