Celtic B held by Cumbernauld Colts as side upset Old Firm again

Cumbernauld Colts fought back to hold Celtic B in the Lowland League yesterday - and claim another impressive result against the Old Firm 'B' teams this season.

James Orr's side started the month with a thumping 4-1 win over Rangers B with 10-men and they have now closed out October by earning a 2-2 draw with Tommy McIntyr'es Celtic B, who sit sixth in the table.

The Broadwood outfit fell behind early on when Rocco Vata netted from an acute angle to break the deadlock at New Broomfield in Airdrie and the sides went in level at the break.

The best of the action came in the second half and Colts pulled themselves level in the 66th minute when skipper Stephen O'Neill equalised from a free-kick that beat the Hoops keeper at his near post.

Cumbernauld were only level for eight minutes, however, as the hosts went back in front after Dominic Slattery turned the ball into his own net.

The visitors produced they perfect response by going straight up the park and grabbing their second equaliser of the game through Sean Winter to earn a crucial point that keeps Cumbernauld 14th in the table.

Cumbernauld have lost 10 of their 17 games this season, but have so far proved a thorn in the Old Firm outfits so far. They also stunned pre-season title favourites East Kilbride 2-0 at K-Park earlier in the campaign.

Bonnyrigg Rose remain top of the table after a 3-0 win over Civil Service Strollers, while Rangers B stayed second with a 1-0 win at home to Berwick Rangers.

East Kilbride's struggles continued as they were held to a draw in an eight goal-thriller with Edinburgh University, leaving them seventh in the standings.

Elsewhere, Gala Fairydean Rovers beat East Stirlingshire 1-0, Gretna and Vale of Leithen drew 1-1 and Broomhill won 3-2 away to University of Stirling.
